What Is Dhriti?
Dhriti is the first of the ten characteristics of Dharma described in Manusmriti (Chapter 6, Verse 92). It represents patience, courage, determination, and mental steadiness. Dhriti is the strength to remain committed to truth and righteousness, even during difficult times.
Life is filled with success and failure, joy and sorrow, gain and loss. A person who remains calm, patient, and steadfast without abandoning the path of Dharma demonstrates the quality of Dhriti.
Key Characteristics of Dhriti
1. Patience
Remaining calm and composed instead of becoming discouraged during difficult situations.
2. Determination
Staying firmly committed to truth, righteousness, and noble goals without giving up.
3. Mental Stability
Maintaining balance in both favorable and unfavorable circumstances, including success and failure.
4. Self-Confidence
Believing in oneself and facing challenges with courage and resilience.
5. Self-Control
Avoiding impulsive decisions and remaining thoughtful even under pressure.
Importance of Dhriti
Dhriti gives a person the inner strength to face challenges with wisdom and courage. Without patience and determination, it is difficult to follow the path of righteousness consistently. For this reason, Dhriti is regarded as the first characteristic of Dharma.
